6 highlights of Tram Ton pass

1 The Tram Ton Pass viewpoint is simple yet captivating and more appealing.

Tram Ton Pass is located between Sapa and Lai Chau. Even if you’re not traveling to Lai Chau or planning to go further northwest, it’s worth visiting the top of Tram Ton Pass for the amazing view. From the viewpoint, you can see Fansipan Mountain across the valley, surrounded by lush forests. The view is especially stunning on clear days. The best time to take photos is at sunset or dawn. At the lookout point, there are wooden buildings on the edge where you can buy souvenirs and food.

2. Spectacular scenery on the way

When you take the last left turn from Sapa, the Tram Ton Pass begins. You’ll climb up for just over a mile to reach a viewpoint. This pass is shorter than other famous ones in Vietnam like Ma Pi Leng or Hai Van Pass. However, on a clear day, you get amazing, endless views. It’s an easy route, but watch out for vans and tour buses. The scenery is so beautiful that you’ll want to stop often for photos or to simply enjoy the view.

3. Silver waterfall

Silver Waterfall is the first waterfall you’ll see on Tram Ton. It’s right next to the road, so you can’t miss it. The waterfall is about 200 meters tall with several beautiful drops. For a small fee, you can climb the stairs beside it and get a closer look.

4. Love waterfall

The Love Waterfall is higher up and not right by the main road. To get there, you need to take a 30-minute hike. The trail has great views and is easy to follow with signs. Many tourists skip this waterfall because of the hike, so it’s much quieter than the Silver Waterfall.

5. Chu Va viewpoint

Many travelers don’t know that after you reach Tram Ton Pass, you can keep driving to see even more stunning mountain views and rice fields below. Most people stop at the top of the pass and head back to Sapa. But if you go 20 or 30 kilometers more, the road starts climbing through the Hoang Son Lien mountain range, which includes Fansipan. Keep going towards Lao Cai for even more amazing views, and make sure to stop at Chu Va viewpoint. Chu Va is one of the highest peaks in Lai Cau province.

6. Fansipan

The Tram Ton Pass is next to Fansipan, Vietnam’s tallest mountain. The hike begins right at the pass, near the Love Waterfall. Climbing the mountain usually takes two days with a guide, and you’ll camp halfway up. If hiking isn’t for you, you can take a cable car from Sapa town to the top for amazing views.

Best time to visit

You can visit Tram Ton Pass any time of year. Just remember, it can get pretty cold in Sapa during December and January. If you’re riding a motorbike yourself, bring warm clothes. In summer, there’s more rain, so pack a rain jacket.

The pass is high in the mountains, so it’s often cloudy, which can hide the amazing views. The best times to take photos are at sunset or dawn. Check the weather forecast before you go to make the most of your visit.
