Sapa Local Treks Mountain view and villages Map
Sapa Adventure: Day 1: Sa Pa to Hang Da to Hau Thao (15km, about 5 or 6 hours)
Are you ready for a super exciting adventure? The Sapa guide will meet you either at your hotel or Sapa’s main church at 9 am. After a quick hi, we’ll trek 1km uphill on a small trail. Trust me, the climb is worth it – we’ll reach a spot with breathtaking views of Fansipan Mountain, the tallest peak in Indochina at 3,143 meters! And guess what? From there, you can see all of Sapa town and the incredible Muong Hoa Valley, famous for its rice terraces – some of the prettiest in Vietnam!
After enjoying the views, we’ll hike down to Hang Da village, where the Black Hmong people live. Keep your eyes wide open for animals like buffalo, cows, and pigs on the way! We’ll stop for lunch at a cozy, family-run restaurant.
Once we’re fueled up, we’ll take a small road to Hau Thao village, another Black Hmong community. Depending on the season, you might catch the locals working in the rice fields, planting or harvesting crops.
In the evening, a Black Hmong family will warmly welcome you to their homestay in Hau Thao village. After settling in, you’ll have time to chill, take a nice hot shower, and get ready for a yummy dinner.
Day 2: Hau Thao to Su Pan to Tiger Mountain (Ban Lech) to Thanh Kim back to Sapa 15km
Get ready for an awesome day! Wake up in your homestay and peek out the window. Watch the clouds float through the valley as the sun rises over the mountains. It’s simply amazing!
After a tasty breakfast, we’ll kick off our trek. We’ll stroll from the homestay to Su Pan, a quaint village tucked near the mountains where the Black Hmong people reside. Here, you can snap some amazing photos of panoramic rice fields and traditional houses. See how the locals live their simple, natural life.
From Su Pan, we’ll follow a small jungle path to Ban Lech, a Hmong village sitting high above Muong Hoa Valley (heading towards Sapa town). Brace yourself for jaw-dropping views! This valley is a whopping 1,500 meters above sea level, and you might just have the view all to yourself.
This hill is nicknamed “Tiger Mountain” because, believe it or not, tigers used to roam here! Our guide will share all the cool stories about it.
Next, we’ll head downhill to Lech Dao, where you’ll meet the Red Dao people, another ethnic group. They’re famous for their knowledge of herbal medicine and using plants to treat illnesses. Pretty cool, huh?
We’ll then stroll to the main road, where a car or bus will take us to a small market for lunch. After refueling, the bus will zip us back to Sapa town.
The tour wraps up around 3:30 or 4 pm, leaving you plenty of time to catch a bus back to Hanoi or explore more of Sapa!

I embarked on this local trekking tour last week, and now that I've concluded my journey through Southeast Asia, I can wholeheartedly say this tour was the highlight and most unforgettable part of my travels. My tour guide was exceptional—both incredibly knowledgeable and genuinely kind. She took the time to delve into the lifestyle of the Hmong tribe, sharing fascinating insights and personal anecdotes throughout the trek. She seamlessly wove together stories of how the Hmong people cultivate rice and craft their clothing, with vivid explanations of the local wildlife and plants found in the villages. Meeting the locals, thanks to her introductions, added a profound and authentic layer to the experience. My homestay was absolutely wonderful; the owners were remarkably hospitable, making me feel truly at home. This tour wasn't just a trek; it was an immersive journey into the heart of a vibrant culture.

We had an incredible trek with Du, a day we will never forget. The day before, we met her lovely sister, Ku, which set the stage for our adventure. Spending the day with Du was a delight—it was just the two of us, and she took exceptional care of us while being fantastic company. Our experience was thoroughly enjoyable, starting with breathtaking views of the rice fields and culminating in a wonderful lunch at Du’s home in the village. We learned so much about Du, her family, and her tribe’s way of life. This personalized journey was a highlight of our trip and far surpassed any group tour. If you want a deeper, more intimate understanding of the culture and the people, we highly recommend this experience!
